Valira Cinema

In 1934 the first cinema in Andorra was inaugurated. The Ribas Duró family owns the building where that cinema was located, Avinguda Carlemany in Escaldes-Engordany, where now is located the Centre d'Art d'Escaldes-Engordany.

At the moment, two of the projectors used during the decade of 1950 are still preserved. For the members of the Ribas Duró family as well as for the Julià Reig Foundation, this material represents a very important and apreciated heritage that they want to share with the Andorran citizens.

Therefore, in summer 2007 the Julià Reig Foundation offered to the Escaldes-Engordany town council the two projectors to be exhibited in the Centre d'Art d'Escaldes-Engordany, ancient location of the Valira Cinema. This iniciative wants to pay a tribute to a place and a ludic activity that was so important during those years and whose memory still remains in a lot of Andorran citizens.

Previously, the Julià Reig Foundation restored the projectors. The projectors' characteristics are: 35mm, (size: 170x150x50cm) in steel and iron. The brand of the projectors is Supersound SA, located in Barcelona and owned by Hugo Texidó. The model is Supersound-Vanguard III, probably previous to the year 1950.
